Of course, local sports are dominated by the overwhelming support of the Arkansas Razorbacks and why shouldn't they be? The University's Arkansas Razorbacks are perennial Southeastern Conference contenders in football, basketball, baseball, track and field, and other sports. The university's men's and women's sports programs and athletic facilities rival those of any school in the nation.

Football

Get ready to "Call those Hogs!" The Razorback football team has been to a bowl game six of the last seven years and has more home wins (34) in the last six years than any other team in the Southeastern Conference. The University of Arkansas's newly renovated Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Football Stadium has a seating capacity of 80,000 and features the largest LED video display in all of collegiate and professional football. It is 30 feet high and 107 feet wide and the display brings dazzling graphics to every fan in the stadium. The stadium also features the Jerry Jones-Jim Lindsey Center (Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys), a magnificent two story atrium at the north end of the football stadium inside the Broyles Athletic Center. It houses displays and video screens which tell the history of more than 100 years of Razorback football.

Basketball

The men's Razorback basketball team is a perennial powerhouse having won a NCAA National Championship in 1994 and has recently reached 3 Final Fours. The Lady Razorback basketball team recently made a NCAA Final Four appearance and is always in contention to take home a SEC West Championship. Much of this success over the years can be attributed to the raucous 20,000 plus capacity crowds at Bud Walton Arena. The Bud Walton Arena is a state-of-the-art arena with more seats in less space than in any such facility in the world.

The heart of the cheering is led by University students that raise crowd intensity in their own section dubbed the "Hog Trough." From the sound system to the laser light show, from the concourse displays to the Tommy Boyer Museum, from the floor side seating to its 36 mid-level luxury boxes, no facility in America can match Bud Walton Arena's atmosphere.

Baum Stadium has been named the country's number one college baseball facility in Baseball America's 1998 survey. It is a 3,300 seat state-of-the-art stadium and stands as a tribute to the UA baseball program. To quote Baseball America, "the structure features amenities that put it in a class of its own."

Track

McDonnell Named NCAA Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year

Arkansas head track and field coach John McDonnell has been named the 2006 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the year. McDonnell was selected by his peers after guiding the Razorbacks to their 19th indoor national championship in the last 22 years last weekend at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. The title was the 42nd national championship in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field for the Razorbacks. Arkansas also captured its 72nd conference crown including its 13th title in 15 tries in the Southeastern Conference.

The most successful coach in any sport in NCAA history has now racked up 30 national coach of the year honors in his 34-year tenure. McDonnell has also been the recipient of 59 district and 42 league coach of the year accolades.

Fayetteville has been declared by many as the "TRACK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD." Who would argue? With 42 NCAA championships and counting, the Razorback track team is the pride of Fayetteville and the envy of all in the track community. The women's track team ended the 2005 season finishing second in both the Indoor and the Outdoor National Championships.

UA's track teams run indoors at The Randal Tyson Track Center, which continues the university's tradition of building some of the finest sports arenas in the nation. The facility has hosted major track and field meets including the 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 NCAA National Indoor Championships. In the off season, the indoor track facility becomes the University Convention and Entertainment Center, hosting several large events.
